Historical Description[]

The port city of Boston has served as an important aspect of American history since the city's formation in 1628. Equipped with its many harbors, Boston's role in pre-revolution America was to import goods primarily from England. Tea was one of Britain's biggest and most profitable exports to its colonies, and the decision to heavily tax this good without American colonists being effectively represented in British politics left disdain in many already upset Bostonians.

In December 1773, citizens living in this port city decided to act on this injustice. While in disguise, they boarded the many ships docked in Boston Harbor, and dumped over 300 shipping crates of British tea overboard into the ocean, equating to roughly $1,700,000 worth of damages by today's standards. This act, known now as the Boston Tea Party, led to Britain imposing four new laws American colonists had to abide by. One of these four 'Intolerable Acts' closed all ports in Boston, and for many Bostonians, ignited the idea of revolution.
