By using advanced, low observation stealth technology, the B-2 Spirit is a bomber made specifically to break through heavy anti-air defenses. In order to achieve this, the developers on the Advanced Technology Bomber Project used heat mitigation, sound dampening, and multispectral camouflage, allowing the B-2 Spirit to avoid a multitude of detection systems. This bomber has a 40,000-pound payload that can be outfitted with a wide array of munitions. This unit is the only recognized aircraft to carry large standoff weapons in a stealth configuration that is still in service. It has the ability to strike from altitudes of up to 50,000 feet, and can fly for over 6,000 nautical miles without needing to refuel. Production lasted for 13 years, and yielded 21 of these aircraft.
