A stealth combat aircraft developed by the United States, the F-35B is the Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing, or STOVL, model of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. Introduced to the public in 2015, this single seat, single engine aircraft has the ability to take off from a short runway, or even from no runway at all if it is not encumbered past its limit, and can land vertically without a runway. With this ability, it has no need for a landing hook like its siblings the F-35A, the F-35C, and the F-35I. The aircraft is optimized for stealth, with a wing-tail configuration outfitted with two vertical stabilizers. Equipped with advanced sensors and radars that provide information regarding surrounding targets, pilots are able to gain the upper hand in dogfights.
