The Elite Machine Gun (Level 6 Machine Gun Infantry) is a standard machine gun unit. Its predecessor is the Veteran Machine Gun.

General Information

A machine gun is a firearm designed to fire bullets as long as the trigger is held, as opposed to semi-automatic weapons that require a trigger-pull for each bullet. The first truly automatic machine gun, the water-cooled Maxim, saw action in WWI, helping make that conflict the high-casualty nightmare it would become.

A Heavy Machine Gun in history is usually a machine that fires larger caliber rounds than a standard MG. HMGs were not portable devices and were often only mounted in defensive emplacements, tanks, and rarely on aircraft.

Historical Description

"Vasily Degtyaryov was a Russian engineer that is credited with deeloping several types of machine guns, anti-tank guns, and submachine guns. When multiple engineers were tasked with submitting designs for the RPD, it was Degtyaryov's design that proved superior and was used in service by the Soviet armed forces in 1953. Although the drum magazine is an iconic facet of the RPD's design, it can easily become clogged with dirt and malfunction."
