Description[]
The Fertile Crescent is the first Single Player Campaign and takes place in the Middle East during the Stone Age. The goal of the campaign is to destroy the "Great Ziggurat of Ur."
The campaign consists of 11 maps with five stars each. Upon earning all 55 stars, the player receives 25 Crowns.

“Although first settled as early as 6000 BCE, Nineveh didn't rise to prominence until five thousand years later when Assyrian King Sennacherib built his palace there. Nineveh was wiped off of the face of the planet, to the gloomy satisfaction of Rudyard Kipling: 'Lo, all our pomp of yesterday / Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!'”

“Babylon was one of the great cities of Antiquity. In 1792 BCE, King Hammurabi of Babylon conquered every major city within reach, for a brief period turning the city into the capital of a mighty empire. This empire didn't long survive Hammurabi's death, however, and Babylon fell into obscurity. Babylon regained its greatness in the 5th century BCE under King Nabopolasser and his son, Nebuchadnezzar II, who famously created the Hanging Gardens there. A few years later the city fell to Cyrus the Great of Persia, and then to Alexander of Macedon 200 years after that. For centuries the city was repeatedly conquered by each new power in the area, and by 140 BCE it was abandoned entirely (probably because nearly everybody there had been killed).”

“This area was for many centuries the home of the Medes, an ancient Iranian people. In 612 BCE the Medes and allies captured Nineveh, causing the collapse of the Assyrian Empire. Over the next 75 years the Medes conquered significant chunks of Persia and Turkey, creating a new empire which competed in greatness with Babylon, Lydia, and Egypt. In 553 Cyrus the Great rebelled against his grandfather Astyages, King of Medes, bringing that empire to an end and starting another (very similar) Persian empire of his own.”

Eventually Sumeria would be absorbed into the growing Akkadian Empire, under the mighty Sargon (2334-2279 BCE).”

“Founded by Sumerians around 4000 BCE on the Euphrates River, Uruk was the home of the mighty king Gilgamesh. At the height of its power, in 3000 BCE, Uruk was the largest city in the world, with as many as 75,000 citizens. Uruk was famous for its massive wall, constructed according to legend by King Gilgamesh himself (who was sort of an early Mesopotamian super-hero). Sumer survived some 5000 years, before being abandoned sometime after the Muslim Conquest of 630 CE. Not a bad record. (For comparison, New York City is around 600 years old.)”

“Constructed in 4200 BCE, Susa was a major city of the Elamite Empire, and one of the great cities of the ancient world. Susa had a long and exciting history which mostly involved it being destroyed. Susa was destroyed in the fifth century BCE by Assyrians. It was rebuilt and later conquered by Cyrus the Great of Persia. The Hebrew prophet Daniel lived and died in Susa. Then the city was mostly destroyed by fire in the third century. It was rebuilt and then destroyed by Alexander the Great. It was rebuilt and then destroyed by Muslims in 638 CE. It was rebuilt, and then destroyed by Mongols in 1218. Susa hasn't been rebuilt again, but one feels it's only a matter of time.”

"A wealthy city and location of the Great Ziggurat."
“Constructed around 3800 BCE on the mouth of the Euphrates River, Ur was originally a coastal city on the Persian Gulf (the coastline has since shifted, leaving Ur inland). Ur was a very wealthy and powerful city for its time. A major port, Ur's merchants traded with countries as far away as India. Ur appears in the Hebrew bible, where some believe it to be the birthplace of Abraham. Unlike so many cities in the area, Ur wasn't destroyed by invading armies. As the coast shifted away, Ur became less successful as a trading center, and by 450 BCE it had been abandoned for cities on the new coastline.”
