Historical Description
Towards the end of World War I, the Imperial Japanese Army investigated ways to make mortars more mobile due to their considerable weight. The Type 4 Ha-To was a prototype built to accomplish this by attaching a 300mm heavy mortar to the modified body of a Chi-To medium tank. The mortar had an effective range of 1.9 miles, but could not be elevated more than 50 degrees to prevent the vehicle from tipping over. Only a total of four of these prototypes were ever built due to their expensive cost and a shift in focus towards the evolving multiple rocket launcher.
