Historical Description []
The Kamov Ka-25 assault helicopter was introduced to the Soviet Navy in 1967. It was originally designed for search and rescue, as well as anti-submarine warfare (ASW). To that end, the Ka-25 was fitted with two coaxial rotors with automatically folding blades. Employing coaxial rotors rather than a tail rotor mean the Ka-25 was easier to store on naval vessels, a major selling point. The assault variant was armed with a dual-barreled 23mm autocannon and six guided, high-explosive anti tank missiles.
