Historical Description[]
Considered a Kensei, a sword saint of Japan, Miyamoto Musashi was truly a master of many disciplines. He devoted his entire life to three disparate subjects: Buddhism, philosophy, and swordsmanship.
Musashi founded his one unique style of Kenjutsu swordsmanship, called Niten Inci-ryu. The technique involved the swordsman using both a large sword, and a companion sword at the same time, such as a katana with a wakizashi. He put this style to the test quite frequently. During his lifetime, he engaged in 61 duels and died without losing a single duel.
He not only created the unique style of swordsmanship, but in his later years he also authored The Book of Five Rings. This text taught his Niten Ichi-ryu in great detail, and also covered other Kenjutsu and martial arts that pertained to it. Musashi held his swordsmanship above all things, ignoring any and all romantic advances, choosing instead to focus on his training and studies in buddhism.
