Historical Description[edit | edit source]

The C-130 Hercules is a heavy-duty troop and cargo transport plane designed and manufactured by Lockheed. With its four turbine-powered propeller engines, it can take off and land on remarkably short and rugged strips, and holds the record for being the largest aircraft to land on an aircraft carrier. The Hercules and its variants have carried out a surprising variety of missions over their long service history, including: airlift, medevac, reconnaissance, search and rescue, airborne assault, aerial refueling, weather data collection, fire fighting and aerial spray, radio and TV broadcast, and gunship.
