Historical Description[edit | edit source]
French aircraft manufacturer Aérospatiale developed the popular Dauphin 2 twin-engine helicopter in the early 1970s, replacing the unsuccessful single-engine Dauphin 1. Amilitarized version of the Dauphin 2 called the Panther was crated in the mid-eighties. The company to change its name: first to Eurocopter in 1992, then eight years later to Airbus Helicopters as a subsidiary of European aerospace titan Airbus.
The versatile Panther can fulfill a variety of roles both on land and at sea. The cabin has seating for up to 10 commandos in addition to the crew. Depending on its armament, it can be equipped to hunt down submarines, attack enemy ships, or provide fire support to land or naval forces, It is also suited for casualty evacuationm personnel retrieval, and insertion or exetration missions. The Panther and its updated variants have been adopted by several armed forces across the world including France, Brazil, Mexico, and Indonesia.
