Historical Description[]

Originating as a small village as early as the 10th century, Warsaw was officially established in the early 1300s. In 1390, the St. John’s Archcathedral was constructed in Warsaw, which caused the town to become a seat for one of the descendants of the Polish Duke Bolesław III Wrymouth. In 1413, Warsaw was officially named the capital of the Masovian Duchy, a feudal estate of Poland. Over the next 500 years, the political landscape of Europe would change drastically, however Warsaw remained either a Capital city, or a major city for the ruling powers of the area.

During the second World War, almost 85% of the city of Warsaw was destroyed by Axis forces and the city lay in near total ruin. Shortly after the war had ended, the rebuilding of Warsaw began. It would take many years to reconstruct the war-torn city, but eventually Warsaw would be reestablished, and would grow much larger than it was before it was destroyed. Currently functioning as both the Capital and largest city in Poland, the city of Warsaw remains the pride of Poland, despite the adversary and many political changes of the region throughout the centuries.
